The team was at the drop zone and at 00:30 the Halifax plane flew just west of the drop zone on a northerly path at low altitude. The lights were immediately turned on, but the plane did not come back. Later engine noise was heard and the lights were turned on again, but the plane could not locate the drop zone. According to the English report, the plane did not return to England. The aircraft, Halifax NA 344 from 298 Squadron, was on its way to drop zone "Leif" at Fasterholt when it crashed into the sea. The entire crew perished. On 2nd June 1945, the body of the pilot, R.F. Mackrill, was found on the beach at Vangså. One of the aircraft’s gunners, F. Bridge, drifted onto the beach at Boevling Klit.
