After flying near the drop zone, the pilot thought he detected German anti-aircraft fire. It was in fact gunfire from a sabotage attack on a nearby railway line. A gunfight was taking place between German guards and saboteurs at the same time as the airdrop was in operation. The aircraft turned around without throwing the containers.
