A dozen saboteurs arrived at the sawmill in two cars, and after holding up the guards and office workers, the telephone and alarm were disconnected. However, one of the German soldiers had no intention of giving up and as he started to run away was shot by one of the saboteurs. The noise alerted other Germans of the attack, and shortly after, a fierce gunfight ensued – they had to shoot their way out. During the gun fight, one saboteur was injured in the arm and later it had to be amputated. Another saboteur was shot in the legs. Some German soldiers were also hit.
