The ship M/S Franken had sailed to Denmark six months earlier for its construction to be completed. Therefore, about 5-600 Danish workers and 20-30 German soldiers worked daily on board the ship. When surveying the ship's cables, an electrician found that nails had been pierced through a cable for a telethermometer and some ventilators. It seemed obvious to suspect some of the many workers for the sabotage. To board the ship, the workers had to show a special pass, however, many unauthorized people came on board as well. This was because several other ships had to position themselves on the outer side of the Franken, which meant in order for their crews to disembark onto land, they had to walk cross the Franken. A worker sabotaged parts of the German boat while working on board.
