The steelworks had been exposed to sabotage several times before. This time, a travel group from Holger Danske carried out the attack, as the local group had asked them for help. The saboteurs gained access by cutting through a steel wire fence, and then the locals pointed out the specific buildings. All the sabotage guards were held up except for one, who was later found sleeping on one of the furnaces which had had an explosive charge placed underneath. In total, eight explosive charges had been planted. All the prisoners were then put into the bomb shelters, after which the saboteurs left the area. The factory was completely destroyed. The following day the sabotage attack was on the front cover of the New York Times and became world-renowned.
