Unknown saboteurs gained access to the hotel through a broken window, after which they doused several rooms and some wine cases in flammable liquid and ignited them. The fire did not light properly. The police could easily trace the sabotage materials used by looking at the wet spots on the floor and by the strong smell of petrol in the room. Only one room next to the bandstand burned down.
