Unknown perpetrators had planted a homemade firebomb in a German truck that was being repaired at Automobile Central. The fire brigade was called in, but the fire had already been extinguished by two telegraph messengers, who happened to be passing. Therefore, the fire never really took hold. The attempt is believed to be part of a series of nine sabotage fires and attempts over the summer of 1942. This conclusion was reached after the same type of bomb and bomb parts were discovered in each of the nine cases.
