Stone and metal parts found in the gas pipe and gas meter.

The company’s heating boilers. The boilers have not been damaged so much in the fire, but were only stripped of paint in places because of exposure to the heat.

The company was a subsidiary of B&W and produced spare parts for German submarines. Two saboteurs planted three English-made firebombs on the factory premises. A fire ignited and subsequently blasted a number of steel bottles that were in the welding depot; one of these shot up through the other floors of the building, up to about 100 metres in height, and was found on the street outside the factory. The police investigation indicated that it was a random accident – there had been a lack of safety valves and consequently an excessive supply of gas for the central heating boilers. However, after the war, it became clear that it had actually been a sabotage attack. Three people were slightly injured in the fire.
