Both of the sabotaged warehouses, warehouse 9 and 10, were used by DFDS and were only separated by a wall of corrugated iron. Two armed saboteurs forced the night watchman to unlock one warehouse. Then several more saboteurs arrived. In warehouse 9, there were rugs and spring mattresses, while warehouse 10 contained 1,200 empty milk cans, which were to be sent to the German front in Stettin, Poland. It was the view of one saboteur that these cans were the target of the sabotage. Bombs were then planted in the warehouses, which subsequently set both warehouses on fire.
