The factory did not work directly for the Wehrmacht, however, they were a newly created subsidiary of F. L. Smith, which had worked considerably for the occupiers. There were also rumours that the factory was going to produce poisonous gas...

The factory did not work directly for the Wehrmacht, however, they were a newly created subsidiary of F. L. Smith, which had worked considerably for the occupiers. There were also rumours that the factory was going to produce poisonous gas. An explosive charge was planted on the factory steam boiler. The subsequent explosion set fire to the building. The blast blew holes through the boiler, and doors and windows in the machine house were ripped out. Almost the whole wooden building was engulfed in flames.
