In the evening, the factory was surrounded by approximately 50 armed men. A gunfight ensued between the factory's twelve sabotage guards from the Summer Corps and the saboteurs. After half an hour of fighting five of the guards were wounded, two of them fatally. During the fight, a hand grenade was thrown into the window of the operator's apartment on the 1st floor, whereby the manager's wife was injured. Subsequently a truck with explosives was driven into the factory hall and detonated.
