The reception team was at the drop zone, but no aircraft flew over. The Stirling plane was on schedule from the Tempsford base but was attacked by a German night fighter on the west coast of Jutland. The aircraft caught fire and landed at Gørding, a few kilometres from Vemb. A crew member was killed. Two crew members were taken by the Germans and spent the rest of the war in a German prison camp. The remainder of the crew hid and later made contact with the resistance movement, who helped them reach Sweden
