Hammel drop zone

Jan Boisen Junker ("Spagetti") SOE-agent. Airdropped together with another SOE agent near Hammel on the night of 12 December. The following day, however, he was arrested by the Gestapo in Århus.

Airdropped twice into Denmark: 11 December 1943 near Hammel and 4 August 1944 to the Feldborg Plantation. He worked as a telegraphist. He was arrested in September 1944 and sent to prison in Germany.

Intro

On the night of 12th December, two SOE agents, Holger Henning Finn Ibsen("Vermicelli") and Jan Boisen Junker ("Spaghetti"), were airdropped successfully in an area close to Hammel. They were both sailors, and in January 1943 had together fled to Sweden. From there they had come to England, where they were recruited by the SOE and trained as sabotage instructors. After the airdrop, they were allowed to stay with the sisters Ullrich in Bruunsgade in Aarhus. On 13th December, Finn Inbsen travelled to Copenhagen, and on the same day, the Gestapo raided the sisters Ullrich's apartment. Subsequently, the SOE agents Jacob Jensen, Kaj Lund and Jan Boisen Junker were all arrested. An immediate interrogation followed that continued for weeks. The Germans soon realised that Boisen Junker only had a limited knowledge of the work in Denmark. Jensen and Lund, however, were subjected to severe pressure, and they finally yielded and provided names and addresses. In the months that followed, the Gestapo succeeded to unravel large parts of the Jutland organization making numerous arrests as a result. Both SOE-agents were since deported to Germany. In January 1944 Finn Ibsen was arrested in Copenhagen by the Germans but managed to escape. After the incident in Aarhus nobody took any chances and Ibsen was sent to Sweden.
