A salute was normally fired at Batteriet Sixtus on ceremonious occasions, however, because of the war, it was forbidden to do this. Therefore, a salute could not be officially fired marking the birth of Princess Benedikte. Resistance men from Holger Danske decided to salute the princess’s birth, by exploding 21 bombs which were planted along the gravel path in Ørsteds park. Several bombs exploded at the same time so the blast was far more powerful than expected and 800 windows were shattered around the park. Despite the strength of the blast, only a single pedestrian was slightly injured.
