Rulers have always needed to manifest their power to the people, either by personal appearances or through symbols of power. Frederik 7th, governor of Funen 1841-48, liked to wear uniform on a daily basis. His helmet and chain mail underlined his status.

Power and revolt Power has appeared in many guises on this large island at the heart of Denmark. With coins and monuments and by prohibitions and punishments, successive rulers have reminded the people of Funen who was in charge. However, in opposition to this power, rebellion lurked!
